About me

Welcome to my blog. My name is Harmon Thompson and I love art; specifically watercolor and pen and ink, also known as pen and wash. My interest in art began in first grade. I drew a mouse and a hat for class one day. My teacher liked it so much that she had me present it to the class and the other first grade class next door. I was motivated. Thank you, teacher. I graduated from the University of Texas-Pan American in Edinburg, Texas, with a BFA in art. Soon after, I got a teaching job at a local high school.

In those years I have learned a lot about the many books, videos, tools and accessories used in art as I order art supplies for the art department. I slowly found out what did and did not worked for me as well as the quality and inferior merchandise that are out there. I left teaching a few years ago when I got tired of teaching in a public school and felt the calling to create my own pen and wash artworks and gag cartoons.

I opened this blog  to have an outlet for my thoughts, reflections and ideas on my pen and wash. I hope you enjoy the gag cartoons; they’re fun to draw and reflect on-yes, artists have a sense of humor, too.

I opened penandwashpassion.com in Late June of 2011; a website on essential art tools for pen and wash. Artists would write on “everything you ever needed to know” or “a complete list of.” I always find something missing. So, hey, I decided to open a website and present what I think is everything you need to paint wonderful pen and wash.

Soon afterwards, I opened zazzle.com/snafu101 where I present my gag cartoons on merchandise for those of you who like to have one hanging around the home. I’m crazy about mugs! I can’t get enough of them. Enjoy.
